Big Lake is a 56-acre reservoir nestled within the Fishlake National Forest in Sevier County, Utah, approximately 21 miles southeast of Richfield. Situated at an elevation exceeding 9,000 feet, the lake is surrounded by expansive meadows and lush aspen and conifer forests, offering a picturesque setting for outdoor enthusiasts.
Recreational Opportunities:
• Fishing: Big Lake is home to a population of rainbow trout, providing anglers with rewarding fishing experiences.
• Camping: Dispersed camping is available near the lake, particularly in areas shaded by aspen and conifer trees. A vault restroom is located at the trailhead near the reservoir north of Forest Road 080. Visitors are encouraged to practice Leave No Trace principles and pack out what they pack in.
• Hiking and OHV Riding: The Big Lake/Annabella Trailhead provides access to various roads and trails suitable for hiking and off-highway vehicle (OHV) riding. It’s essential to stay on designated routes to protect the area’s natural resources.
Access Directions:
To reach Big Lake from Richfield:
1. Head east on 300 North (UT-118) for 1 mile.
2. Continue straight onto UT-119 east for 4.2 miles.
3. Turn right into Glenwood and proceed for 1 mile.
4. Turn left onto Center Street, traveling east for 0.4 miles; Center Street then turns right and becomes Fish Hatchery Road (UT-263).
5. Continue for 3.4 miles and turn left onto Monroe Mountain Road (FR068).
6. Follow FR068 for 11 miles, then turn right onto FR080 for 0.5 miles to reach the lake.
